Анотація: The main goal of this book is to explain the core ideas of process mining, and to demonstrate how they can be implemented using just some basic tools that are available to any computer scientist or data scientist. It describes how to analyze event logs in order to discover the behavior of real-world business processes. The end result can often be visualized as a graph, and the book explains how to use Python and Graphviz to render these graphs intuitively. Overall, it enables the reader to implement process mining techniques on his or her own, independently of any specific process mining tool. An introduction to two popular process mining tools, namely Disco and ProM, is also provided. The book will be especially valuable for self-study or as a precursor to a more advanced text. Practitioners and students will be able to follow along on their own, even if they have no prior knowledge of the topic. After reading this book, they will be able to more confidently proceed to the research literature if needed.

Анотація: This book constitutes the proceedings of the BPM Forum from the International Conference on Business Process Management, BPM 2017, held in Barcelona, Spain, September 2017. The BPM Forum hosts innovative research which has a high potential of stimulating discussions. The papers selected for the forum are expected to showcase fresh ideas from exciting and emerging topics in BPM, even if they are not yet as mature as the regular papers at the conference. The volume contains 11 full papers carefully reviewed and selected from 97 submissions. Each paper was reviewed by a team comprising of a senior PC and four regular PC members who engage in a discussion phase after the initial reviews were prepared. The authors eventually receive four review reports, and a meta-review that summarizes the reviews and the discussion. The selected papers cover topics related to process models and metrics, mining and compliance, and to other innovative ideas such as gamification, smart devices and digital innovation as far as they pertain to BPM.

Анотація: This book contains revised and extended versions of selected papers from the Sixth International Symposium on Business Modeling and Software Design, BMSD 2016, held in Rhodes, Greece, in June 2016, organized by the Institute IICREST in cooperation with BPM-D, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, TU Delft, CTIT - University of Twente, IMI-BAS, the Dutch Research School SIKS, and AMAKOTA Ltd. BMSD 2016 received 59 paper submissions from which 27 papers were selected for publication in the BMSD'16 proceedings. Additional post-symposium reviewing was carried out reflecting both the qualities of the papers and the way they were presented. 11 best papers were selected for the current Springer edition, that were carefully revised and extended, following the reviewers' comments and recommendations. The selection considers a large number of BMSD-relevant research topics: from business-processes-related topics, such as business process management, variability of business processes, and inconsistencies risk detection, (here it is to be mentioned that several papers consider and analyze particular business process modeling formalisms and tools), through system-engineering-related topics, such as conceptual modeling, enterprise architectures, human-centered design, signs modeling, and idiosyncrasies capturing, to service-oriented-software-engineering-related topics, such as service orchestration and e-services design.

Анотація: This book outlines the important foundational insights for enterprise governance and enterprise engineering, which are obviously provided by the social and organization sciences, but also by other sciences such as philosophy and information technology. It presents an employee-centric theory of organization in order to secure enterprise performance and also to comply with moral considerations about society and human individuals. This is necessary as prescriptions based on ‘best practices’ or the ‘best managed companies’ are often merely anecdotal, faddish, or controversial, and based on unsubstantiated pseudo-theories. The book consists of four main chapters, the first of which summarizes the importance of foundational insights for enterprises and explains the mutual relationships between the basic elements of enterprise governance and enterprise engineering. Next, chapter 2 explains the necessary philosophical foundations concerning knowledge, truth, language, and human existence. Subsequently, chapter 3 describes the ontological foundation and the nature of society and enterprises, as understanding their characteristics is a prerequisite for understanding and designing enterprises. Finally, chapter 4 approaches ideological foundations as beliefs and convictions, as they create specific requirements for the design of enterprises. In this way, the book covers all the cornerstones of the employee-centric theory of organization, drawing on foundational insights. The book is mainly intended for students specializing in areas such as business administration, management and organization science, governance, and enterprise and information systems design. However, professionals working in these areas will also benefit from the book, as it allows them to gain a deeper understanding of the theoretical foundations of their work and will thus help them to avoid strategic failures due to a lack of coherence and consistency between the various parts of their organization.

Анотація: Architectural coordination of enterprise transformation (ACET) integrates and aggregates local information and provides different viewpoints, such as financial, structural, or skill perspectives to the respective stakeholder groups, with the aim of creating a consensus and shared understanding of an enterprise transformation among the stakeholders. Its core purpose is to inform decision-makers with both local and enterprise-wide concerns so that the overall transformation goals can be successfully pursued, i.e. reducing inconsistencies and including local decisions in the overarching goals. This book consists of three major parts, framed by an introduction and a summary. To enable readers to gain a better understanding of the issues involved in real-world enterprise transformations as well as the possible role of architectural coordination and the associated challenges, Part I provides an analysis of status quo of corporate ACET practice. Part II then continues with an exploration of the challenges facing ACET from a theoretical perspective. Based on these challenges, Part III then presents a collection of components for a possible design theory for ACET. Instead of an integrated method, this collection of components constitutes method fragments that can be arranged in different ways depending on the perspective taken, the actual enterprise architecture management approach, the enterprise transformation type and the transformation’s context.
