Анотація: This book offers a comprehensive, easy to understand guide for startup entities and developing companies, providing insight on the various sources of funding that are available, how these funding sources are useful at each stage of a company’s development, and offers a comprehensive intellectual property strategy that parallels each stage of development. The IP strategies offered in this book take into consideration the goals that most startups and companies have at each stage of development, as well as the limitations that exist at each stage (i.e., limited available resources earmarked for intellectual property asset development), and provides solutions that startups and companies can implement to maximize their return on intellectual property investments. This book also includes a number of descriptive examples, case studies and scenarios to illustrate the topics discussed, and is intended for use by startups and companies across all industries. Readers will garner an appreciation for the value that intellectual property rights provide to a startup entity or company and will gain an understanding of the types of intellectual property rights that are available to companies and how to procure, utilize and monetize those intellectual property rights to help their company grow. Explains the relevance of intellectual property for startups and companies across the various stages of development and types of funding; Explores the benefits of protecting, managing and enforcing intellectual property so that companies can obtain the best possible commercial results from their IP ownership; Evaluates the role intellectual property plays in business development, raising funding capital, competitive strategy, product design and development, service delivery, marketing, and business expansion. .

Анотація: This book introduces and analyzes the models for engineering leadership and competency skills, as well as frameworks for industry-academia collaboration and is appropriate for students, researchers, and professionals interested in continuous professional development. The authors look at the organizational structures of engineering education in knowledge-based economies and examine the role of innovation and how it is encouraged in schools. It also provides a methodological framework and toolkit for investigating the needs of engineering and technology skills in national contexts. A detailed empirical case study is included that examines the leadership competencies that are needed in knowledge-based economies and how one university encourages these in their program. The book concludes with conceptual modeling and proposals of specific organizational structures for implementation in engineering schools, in order to enable the development of necessary skills for future engineering graduates.

This book answers these questions in a lucid manner. It also provides a brief chronological history of landmark events and answers questions such as: When was steam engine invented? Where was first CNC machine developed? When did the era of additive manufacturing start? When did the marriage of mechanical and electronics give birth to discipline of mechatronics? This book informs and create interest on mechanical engineering in the general public and particular in students. It also helps to sensitize the engineering fraternity about the historical aspects of engineering. At the same time, it provides a common sense knowledge of mechanical engineering in a handy manner.

Анотація: Systems are everywhere and we are surrounded by them. We are a complex amalgam of systems that enable us to interact with an endless array of external systems in our daily lives. They are electrical, mechanical, social, biological, and many other types that control our environment and our well-being. By appreciating how these systems function, will broaden our understanding of how our world works. Readers from a variety of disciplines will benefit from the knowledge of system behavior they will gain from this book and will be able to apply those principles in various contexts. The treatment of the subject is non-mathematical, and the book considers some of the latest concepts in the systems discipline, such as agent based systems, optimization, and discrete events and procedures. The diverse range of examples provided in this book, will allow readers to: Apply system knowledge at work and in daily life without deep mathematical knowledge; Build models and simulate system behaviors on a personal computer; Optimize systems in many different ways; Reduce or eliminate unintended consequences; Develop a holistic world view . This book will enable readers to not only better interact with the systems in their professional and daily lives, but also allow them to develop and evaluate them for their effectiveness in achieving their designed purpose. Comments from Reviewers: “This is a marvelously well written introduction to Systems Thinking and System Dynamics - I like it because it introduces Systems Thinking with meaningful examples, which everyone should be able to readily connect” - Gene Bellinger, Organizational theorist, systems thinker, and consultant, Director Systems Thinking World “Excellent book .very well written. Mr. Ghosh's world view of system thinking is truly unique” - Peter A. Rizzi, Professor Emeritus, University of Massachusetts Dartmouth “A thorough reading of the book provides an interesting way to view many problems in our society” –Bradford T. Stokes, Poppleton Chair and Professor Emeritus, The Ohio State University College of Medicine “This is a very good and very readable book that is a must read for any person involved in systems theory in any way - which may actually include just about everyone” - Peter G. Martin, Vice President Business Value Consulting, Schneider Electric .

Анотація: This book offers a platform for engineering educators who are interested in implementing a “creative ways of knowing” approach to presenting engineering concepts. The case studies in this book reveal how students learn through creative engagement that includes not only design and build activities, but also creative presentations of learning, such as composing songs, writing poems and short stories, painting and drawing, as well as designing animations and comics. Any engineering educator will find common ground with the authors, who are all experienced engineering and liberal arts professors, who have taken the step to include creative activities and outlets for students learning engineering. • Demonstrates various methods for returning to the basics of engineering education, which include design and creativity, teamwork and interdisciplinary thinking; • Discusses a timely topic, as higher education puts more attention on the student experience of learning in all disciplines; • Includes actual student products demonstrating “creative ways of knowing in engineering”; • Highlights multiple ways to teach engineering concepts.

Анотація: A book that takes you through and beyond your doctoral studies. It will be a valuable reference throughout your working life. Drawing on their own extensive experience, the authors pass on invaluable advice by answering such questions as: Do I want to do a doctorate? How should I choose which doctorate and where to study? How do I achieve my doctorate? What career opportunities exist once I’ve completed my doctorate? What is the role of networking, leadership and reputation in building my career? How do I go about mentoring the next generation? What do I do when things don’t go to plan? This practical guide helps you to determine your best answer to all these questions and more. The authors not only discuss how to become a success but also how to keep success going, beginning with the choice to do a doctorate (or not) and what to expect, through how to get the best from student–supervisor interaction, the value of networking, the process of publication, how to choose between a career in academia or industry, while achieving work–life balance. The authors’ own thoughts are enriched by the life experiences of many colleagues and prominent individuals who have achieved success and recognition: the book contains inspirational quotes from established figures in academia and industry. They reflect on career options, what leads to a successful career, and how to make conscious career choices instead of letting things happen and hoping for the best. This ranges from avoiding common pitfalls—such as squandering your reputation—to developing that all-important energy: your personal passion. A Doctorate and Beyond will be an extra difference in making the most of the best times and will support you when the going gets tough. If you are contemplating doctoral studies in engineering or the physical sciences, or have a doctorate and are seeking career guidance, this book will change the way you think about life.

Анотація: This book is intended as a basis for advanced treatment of concepts in project management. In the current scenario where most questions are answered through the internet, the knowledge element in project management has come under the influence of disruptive technologies. In other words, project managers no longer get 'points' for knowing something that is easily available on the internet. This has far-reaching consequences. The present day project managers need to orient themselves to newer benchmarks of what is required for success on the business front. This book deals with a few such advanced concepts in project management. This book is not designed as an elementary primer to the field of project management, rather it is an advanced level treatment on the subject, to be read after the preliminary study has already been completed. The book is designed for practicing project managers, and graduate students in engineering and management, who need to understand the dynamics that are typically encountered in a project-based environment. The content in the book is based on extensive study of literature and training programs. Many of the tools have been developed on the basis of modeling and simulation methods that are specially designed by the author. These were tested at several live projects across the globe. Most of the exercises in the book are actually meant for the reader to perform as they go. The book is not designed with a ‘read-all-and-come-back-later’ approach, rather it focuses on ‘learning by doing’, whereby the reader is expected to do the exercises before reading on. The book will prove useful in self-learning, as well as in classroom teaching and professional training programs.
